Doghill Farm Stud

Home of Doghill Quarter Horses

Doghill Farm stud, which is home to Doghill Quarter Horses, is based just outside Cardiff in the stunning Vale of Glamorgan and is only 10 minutes from junction 33 of the M4.

We have a forward-thinking AQHA breeding programme, which features both home-grown and imported European and USA stock. We are known for consistently producing high quality, well-bred, properly started young horses, who have excellent conformation, the characteristic calm quarter horse temperament and the ability to do any job they are asked to do.

Our AQHA Quarter Horse breeding started as a follow on from Helen’s well-established Lusitano stud. Our AQHA foundation mare Acorn Flybynight (Acorn) was bought in foal by Huw as a surprise gift for Helen because he’d forgotten their wedding anniversary. As he couldn’t find an appropriately bred Iberian broodmare to add to Helen’s Lusitano breeding herd without going to Portugal, he decided to buy an in-foal AQHA mare instead! The rest, as they say, is history!

From those very humble beginnings and one American Quarter Horse mare and foal, Doghill Quarter Horses has grown considerably. Now as well as owning a significant number of exceptionally well bred AQHA mares with proven competition provenance (both imported and UK/home-bred), it is also home to Hobbits Rocky San and Gotta Mightey Sting, registered AQHA stallions who both have exceptional performance pedigrees.

With more than 250 acres of natural grazing and large, naturally sheltered fields with all year turnout, Doghill Farm is a fabulous place for our foals to be born and our horses to call home.

If you’re looking for your next horse or even just want to find out more about American Quarter Horses in general, please feel free to get in touch!
